11/27/05 >> GUN (PC)
Genre: Action

A few good years have passed since a good western came out. Just like in the good old Wild West movies, you have shootouts, bar brawls, and classic horse riding. You even have a special skill which lets you make time feel like its slowed down. When you activate it, you can quickly take out an enemy, or multiple enemies in a short time.
Gameplay:
Pretty stable and fun gameplay. You can do lots of side missions, or just go out in the badlands and look for gold. While in the badlands or other places out of town, you can get attacked randomly by bandits. You can either run, or shoot them off their horses. The controls are good, yet sometimes a little tricky when in the middle of an intense fight. There was a few glitches, when it told you to use certain buttons to do tasks, sometimes the wrong buttons would show up and would make you push random buttons till you found it.

Story:
Short, yet exciting storyline which will keep you guessing who will die, and who will live. Even if you do the side missions, you will be expecting a little more. The story seemed like a summary of what could have been done.
Graphics:
When in buildings or in town, the graphics seem pretty realistic and good. When out in the badlands, or other areas, I kept passing the map loading, and it would freeze for awhile then load back up. Animations are very bad when looking at them from far away. The people on horses or walking look like they are floating around. The people that are farther then about 20 feet away from your character seem to have this problem. The game engine seems like it needs to be updated. It looks like it is still using the old engine from the Tony Hawk games.

Sound:
Very good acting and voice-overs. The horses and people sound realistic. The only problem was sometimes they would start talking, then another person would start to talk, and they first person would stop halfway through their sentence.
Playtime/Replayability:
The game is shorter then most games out there. While it is fun to play, there could have been more mini-games and other activities to do, to bring the replayability up and playtime up as well. More guns would have been nice to see, as well as being able to buy ammo for guns. The only things you can buy are upgrades and tools, which were good, yet you had to find your own ammo in towns or out in the badlands. You may play this game every once in awhile, but probably only play this game once and put it on the shelf.

Final Recommendation:
While this is a good western, and there is not another wild west game like it, I would only recommend it to those who like a fast and fun, horse back riding, and shooting enemies on horse and on foot. If you are looking for a game like GTA, or True Crime, this is not really a game for you. Yes it does have little side missions and shooting just like them; it’s not the same style and feels a little old compared to those games.
