Warhammer® Online: Age of Reckoning™
Notes on the Architecture of the Empire

Much of the Empire is themed after 16th century Germany while mixing in other interesting aesthetics from across Europe. You’ll see high-pitched roofs on half-timbered, Tudor-inspired homes with a touch of gothic, sculptural details. Inquiring minds may find interesting similarities in the castles of the Empire to the Burg Eltz and Neuschwanstein Castle. However, the Empire has its own history and culture that elevate it’s aesthetics beyond that of mere historical recreation.

Since the world of Warhammer is always at war, buildings of the Empire are constructed with defensive measures already in place. Very few structures have windows on the first floor and most have entrances elevated above the ground level. These are extremely sturdy structures that short-lived humans then pass down through many generations. Each successive owner then adds to the building or shores up aging walls. This gives the construction a great organic feel with tacked on dormers, chimneys, and extended rooflines. Finally, the citizens of the Empire are fond of displaying their allegiance to their lords and their gods. Therefore, many of the building prominently display the various symbols of the Empire, such as the Twin-Tailed Comet and the Hammer of Sigmar.
