Black Ops 3 Zombies Guide

Zombies "Shadows of Evil" Call of Duty Black Ops 3 Guide is exactly what you need to take your gaming experience to the next level.

Call of Duty Black Ops 3 Zombies Guide

Zombies are back in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.

Here’s our ultimate guide to dominating zombies mode in the newest CoD.

Black Ops 3 Zombies Maps

black ops 3 zombies guide

There are two zombies maps available for Black Ops 3 at launch:

Shadows of Evil

zombies black ops 3Shadows of Evil is included with Black Ops 3 (no DLC or special editions required). It features a storyline involving a group of characters voiced by some pretty big-name voice actors, including:

-Nero (Jeff Goldblum)

-Jessica (Heather Graham)

-Vincent (Neal McDonough)

-Floyd Campbell (Ron Perlman)

These characters reside in fictional Morg City. All of the characters have troubled backgrounds. Treyarch describes them as all having “a long and sordid history of past misdeeds”.

All four characters wake up in a city overrun by zombies. They’re guided through the city by a mysterious (and unreliable) figure named the Shadow Man (voiced by Robert Picardo).

Shadows of Evil will have tie-ins to previous zombie modes from other call of Duty games, particularly Mob of the Dead from Black Ops II.

Treyarch describes Shadows of Evil as being a “film-noir inspired horror story” that takes place in a 1940s-style “metropolis swathed in evil”.

The Giant

As German-speaking CoD players already know, “The Giant” is simply a translation of the famous “Der Riese” map from World at War and other Black Ops games.

This map will feature alternate versions of the original characters, including Tank Dempsey (Steven Blum), Nikolai Belinski (Fred Tatasciore), Takeo Masaki (Tom Kane) and Edward Richtofen (Nolan North). All of these characters were first introduced in the Black Ops II zombies map, Origins.

The story picks up where Zombies left off and your job is to rewrite the timeline of the original map.

This map is only available via DLC or to those who buy the Digital Deluxe, Hardened, or Juggernog versions of the game.

XP-Based Progression System

One of the key additions to Black Ops 3’s zombies mode is the new XP-based progression system.

Treyarch claims that system will let you personalize your zombies experience to “add depth and re-playability”.

We’ll add more details on this system as the game gets closer to release.

Black Ops 3 “The Giant” Zombies Bonus Map Trailer

In July, 2015, Treyarch released the following video showing The Giant zombies map:

You can get an idea for the storyline from that trailer and get another glimpse of some of your favorite characters from Black Ops II’s Origins.

Shadows of Evil Zombies Reveal Trailer

Two days before releasing the trailer above, Treyarch released the Shadows of Evil zombies reveal trailer.

Shadows of Evil is included with the core Black Ops game. That trailer gives you a sneak peek at some of the voice actors in Black Ops 3. It also gives you a look at the unique atmosphere and “film noir” style of Morg City.

Tips and Tricks for Black Ops 3 Zombies Mode

Black Ops 3’s Zombies mode has the same core gameplay elements of previous zombies modes.

If you were good at zombies mode in previous Call of Duty games, then you’ll probably be pretty good at zombies mode in Black Ops 3.

Here are some tips to help you survive wave after wave of attacks:

Don’t Ignore Repairs

Okay, we’ll start with an easy and obvious one: don’t ignore repair jobs. Repairing gives you 10 extra points. It also keeps zombies out. Got it? Good.

Take Advantage of Buildables

Black Ops 3 has new and exciting buildables for you to construct your fortress. Cover your teammates to give them time to build the zombie shield, which protects you from behind, or the head chopper, which chops off the heads of nearby zombies.

Get Better at Headshots

Okay, so this tip applies to all shooter games, but it’s particularly important in zombies. Players who can regularly headshot zombies will save countless rounds of ammunition while clearing enemies more quickly. Remember: headshotting a zombie is easier than headshotting the average multiplayer player because they’re slow and walking towards you. Practice more.

Don’t Forget to Buy Perks

Black Ops 3 Zombies Mode comes with the usual assortment of perks. Perks will boost your stats in exchange for points (typically priced between 500 to 2500 points). You can have a maximum of 4 perks at any one time, although some maps (like Buried) have more perks available using things like the Wonderfizz machine. Popular perks for all types of players include Juggernog, Speed Cola, Double-tab Root Beer, and Quick Revive (if playing solo), or Stanim-up (if playing co-op).

Invest in Pack-a-Punch

Pack-a-Punch can be the difference between life or death. You’ll spend 5,000 points to Pack-a-Punch your weapon, but doing so refills your ammo and buffs up the weapon. It also gives you different colored bullets. It doesn’t make a huge difference on low-tier weapons but can be a gamecahnger with high-tier weapon like the Ray Gun or RPD.

Learn How to Ride the Train

Black Ops 3 zombies can be “trained” just as easily as zombies from previous games. Sure, camping might be satisfying (and effective) for the first 20 to 25 levels. But you’re going to need to practice some advanced zombie strategies once you get into the higher rounds.

Get better at “training” zombies. Training involves running around and leading a group of zombies in a fixed route (circles are popular) while gradually shooting them down. You’ll need to spend some time getting familiar with the Black Ops 3 maps before this is a safe or effective strategy – but it definitely pays off in the end.

Know When to Knife

Many players recommend knifing your way through the first few rounds (or at least the first round). Knifing helps you rack up the points while saving valuable ammo.

Know When to Use Melee Power Ups

Melee power ups are once again available in Black Ops 3 Zombies mode. These power-ups can significantly extend the number of rounds you can use your melee weapon.

Valuable melee power ups returning from Black Ops 2 include the Bowie Knife (can kill zombies in one hit before round 8 and can kill leapers in one hit the first two times they appear), the Galvaknuckles (can kill zombies in one hit before round 15 and can kill leapers in one hit the first three times they show up), and the Wind Knife (can kill groups of zombies in one hit before round 45 and can kill a single zombie in one hit before round 50).

Know When to Use Equipment

One difference between rookie zombies players and expert zombies players is the way in which they use equipment (if at all). Some of the best equipment in Black Ops 3’s zombies mode include:

-Claymores: Once you hit round 27, claymores don’t kill in one hit anymore – but they’ll still put a major dent into the horde.

-Semtex Grenades: A well-aimed semtex grenade can instantly take out a large horde (especially during Insta-Kill). You also save ammo.

-Monkeys and Strike Beacons: They’re little distractions, but they can be the difference between life or death when used at the appropriate time.

If you can follow the strategies listed above, then you’ll be dominating Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s Zombies mode in no time at all!

Know How To Turn On The Power Switch

We also talked briefly about how to turn on the power in Shadows of Evil Morg City here while posting a video that you can watch to see how to become the beast and zap the power switch.

Know How To Turn On The Music

We have received feedback on how to turn on the music for BO3 – we have made a separate post (with images) outlining all 3 radio locations to turn on the music in the game to make it nice and simple.

Know How To Activate & Locate All Perks

As upgraded feature in Black Ops 3, it is important you find, locate and activate all perks within the Zombies game mode. Read through our Zombies Perks list here and see how you can find them all fast.

Know How To Build A Pack-A-Punch Machine

Another big component that can make or break your success inside BO3 Zombies is learning how to properly build a pack-a-punch machine. We have outlined how to do this here and give you another walkthrough guide to accomplish this powerful feat.

Know How To Find Easter Eggs

A very big part of the game and one that will continually be updated as more come to light, but check out our Shadows of Evil easter eggs tips here.

Fumigator Locations in Black Ops 3

The Fumigator is a new item in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s Zombies mode. That item can be used to spawn different items for you.

You only encounter the Fumigator in Zombies mode.

Finding the Fumigator on the Shadows of Evil map is surprisingly easy: immediately after you spawn, turn 180 degrees around to face the gated alleyway (the one next to one of the windows you can board up). Grab the Fumigator off the brick wall. It’s the shiny thing.

What does the Fumigator do? You can use the Fumigator to harvest pods that appear throughout the map.

Each pod provides you with power-ups. Some pods will also (rarely) give you guns. At the beginning of the level, the pods will mostly give away power-ups. However, as rounds progress, the pods will change colors, which signifies that they’re going to release even better items to help your survival.

The best thing you can hope to get from a Fumigator is a ray gun you can use to mow down zombies.

Ultimately, pods will play a critical role in Zombies. Get the Fumigator and start harvesting those pods to make your life way easier.

How to Find the Summoning Key

You’ll need the Summoning Key to progress through Shadows of Evil.

To get the Summoning Key, you’ll need to enter Beast Mode when the game starts (use the fountain with the purple flames). Look for the truck in the spawn room. There’s a box sitting on the back of that truck. Change into human form and you’ll find a new item in that box – the Summoning Key.

How to Summon the Civil Protector and Beat CoP

You may have noticed a “Beat CoP” achievement / trophy in Black Ops 3.

If you want to get the Beat CoP achievement in Black Ops 3 Zombies, then you’re going to need the Civil Protector.

Specifically, you need to summon the civil protector in all four districts. You need to do this by yourself: it doesn’t count if another player summons the Civil Protector. If another player summons the Civil Protector, it doesn’t void the trophy – it just means you have to reactivate the box later and summon him yourself.

Summoning the civil protector requires you to find 3 fuses and activate the fuse box. The fuses are scattered across the Canal, Waterfront, and Footlight Districts (they’re the glowing blue things you find on the upper floors, although the exact location varies between playthroughs).

To summon the Civil Protector in the Canal District, go through the portal in that district to reach the fuse box. Once the fuse box is active you can summon the Civil Protector.

You’ll need to summon the Civil Protector in each of the four districts to get the Beat CoP trophy, and each activation costs 2000 points.

You’ll also need to wait for your Civil Protector robot to explode before you can summon the other ones. Typically, this takes 2 to 3 rounds. Expect to wait until around round 13 to activate all Civil Protectors.

How to Get the Wonder Weapon “Apothicon Servant”

The Apothicon Servant is a new Wonder Weapon in Black Ops 3 Zombies on the Shadows of Evil map. When the Apothicon Servant is shot, it produces a portal that sucks away and destroys any nearby zombies (it works in a similar way to the Gersch Device).

Creating the Apothicon Servant requires the following items:

Margwa Heart (dropped by a Margwa the first time it is killed; if you don’t grab it right away, then it will disappear and spawn on the next Margwa).

Xenomatter (Random drop from Parasites or R.A.P.S. during boss rounds past round 14)

Margwa Tentacle (You’ll find these randomly in any of the pods that can be harvested, although you’ll need to wait for the later roudns when the pod has grown to its larger size and is colored purple)

Once you’ve gathered these three items, you can build the Apothicon Servant at any buildable table around the map.

Black Ops 3 Update: November 3, 2015

Just prior to launch, it was revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 would have a “Nightmare” mode. That news comes from players who have received the game early: developer Treyarch never actually told us about Nightmare mode.

In fact, in the days leading up to the release of Black Ops 3, most details of Nightmare mode remained a complete mystery.

So what is Nightmare mode?

Nightmare Mode turns the entire campaign into zombies mode.

Now, that doesn’t mean you get to play the exact same campaign with the same storyline – just with everybody replaced with zombies. That’s not what you’re getting with Nightmare mode.

Instead, what it means is that you get the same locations as the campaign, but with new zombie-related objectives and storylines.

To get into Nightmare mode, just click “Nightmares” from the main Black Ops 3 multiplayer or singleplayer menu.

Call of Duty Black Ops 3 Launch Trailer

On November 1, Treyarch released the launch trailer for Black Ops 3 onto YouTube. Here’s that trailer in all its glory:

Featuring Seattle Seahawk Marshawn Lynch, Cara Delevigne, and Michael B. Jordan, the trailer follows the same live action style as other recent Call of Duty launch trailers. Some think they’re cheesy. Others think they’re cool.

Gun Camo Details Released

Treyarch has released surprisingly few details in the days leading up to the Black Ops 3 release. One thing they did release however, was the type of weapon camouflages available. Here are the full weapon camos for multiplayer modes:

  • Jungle Tech
  • Ash
  • Flectarn
  • Heat Stroke
  • Snow Job
  • Dante
  • Integer
  • 6 Speed
  • Burnt
  • Integer
  • Policia
  • Bliss
  • Battle
  • Chamelon

Note: Treyarch didn’t actually release this list of camos. It was leaked to a gaming website called Gearnuke.

Midnight Release on November 6, 2015

Well, Amazon is unveiling its first ever midnight delivery feature. Black Ops 3 will be the first of anything Amazon has delivered through this feature.

All you have to do to get an Amazon midnight delivery is be an Amazon Prime member. If you’re already a member, just order Black Ops 3 using the Prime Now app. Open the app and you should see prominent advertisements for Black Ops 3’s midnight delivery everywhere inside the app.

Only a set number of deliveries are allotted in cities across America and Prime Now is not available in many parts of the country.
